Hello! Long time no blog!

And I'm sorry to say it, but this will be my last post.
I know I only blogged for a summer, but it was good while it lasted and I had fun!
Now I just don't have time! School and socializing is just keeping me too busy! College students just can't catch a break. ;)

My sister and I have started two blogs here. They are not strictly fashion blogs...they will be about whatever we want, but mostly Disney related things and our experience with the College Program.

Fabulous Footwear For Fall

I checked out forever21.com the other day, as I do everyday, and was absolutely delighted by a pair of boots on their new arrivals page.

I'm officially obsessed. I love the black leather and the little round buttons. They have an old world feel with a touch of don't-mess-with-me modern toughness.
And they're only $30!
Who wouldn't feel like quite the high fashion trend setter whilst donning such fabulous footwear?

Disney just bought Marvel.
Yes, thats right. The comic book mega company that has produced some of the most widely known characters in the history of pop culture. Just name the superhero and you can bet your private stash of Kryptonite that Marvel owns the rights.
What does this mean for the Disney Company? Who knows. I only hope that Bob Iger, President of Disney, will be smart enough to keep the characters in well-made blockbusters and out of the theme parks!

So why am I so excited about this?
Well, this merger means the possibility for some fantastic superhero movies produced by Disney. Which also creates the opportunity for me to, in my future job, create some wonderful superhero costumes!

Everyone in the world loves music. And everyone in the world loves to be happy.
Therefore, I think we can logically conclude that everyone in the world loves music that will make them happy.
Allow me to introduce Owl City - a music venture established by a young man named Adam whose influences include God, optimism, G-rated movies and Hubert de Givenchy. You just can't get a better combination than that.
My friend told me to look him up on itunes a few weeks ago and I downloaded his most recent album, Ocean Eyes, immediately. I've also become addicted ever since. His music is so upbeat, charming, romantic and, well, happy. The lyrics are clever, smooth and filled with puns, which make it quite fun. (Oops! Poet and didn't know it! =D)

I also strongly encourage you to follow him on twitter. He is absolutely hilarious.

It's 6:59 on Friday morning and I'm filling up my tumbler with steaming hot coffee, preparing to face a College Algebra class. The thing is, typically, math and I don't usually get along so well. The whole numbers and equations thing just messes with my brain.

Thankfully, there are things in the world that are much more agreeable with my sense of being. For example - everything at Whimsical Treasure. Even the name makes me smile.

What I Would Wear...To My Dream Job Interview

Seeing as at 11 AM this very morning I will be interviewed via telephone for the first step in my journey to my dream occupation, I figured it would be fitting to have this Wednesday be What I Would Wear To My Dream Job Interview Wednesday.

I hope to be a Costume Designer so I thought a mix of creativity and professionalism would be perfect. I kept the color palette neutral so as to not be overpowering, but gave it a pop of color with bright red shoes. The jacket, which I would wear unbuttoned over the dress, is powerful but doesn't overpower the softness and daintiness of the ruffles. I love the mix of gunmetal silver and gold on the ring - it looks vintage and strong. The bag is large and practical yet cute - perfect for toting around sketches and fabric swatches.

I probably won't be posting much for the next few days. This first week back at school promises to be busy, busy, busy! But I'm sure as soon as I fall into a routine I will be back to posting a million things like always.

As for now, I'm exhausted and my social calendar is full. It doesn't look like very much sleep is in my future! But hey - who needs sleep? It's a colossal waste of time.

I finally purchased the movie that I have been meaning to purchase for a very long time. It's one of my favorites ever. I honestly don't see how anyone could dislike this movie in the slightest. Unless, of course, you didn't like funny, heart warming, well-written, well-casted, romantic movies.
Even then you may still like When Harry Met Sally.
It's just. that. good.

And what better place for an aspiring costume designer to get inspiration than from her favorite movies?

Packing Up My Closet

Putting half of my wardrobe in boxes is exhausting. I'm trying to restrain myself and only bring what I need and a few cute things, but I always find myself saying, "But what if I need my floral print tank with the braided trim?!"

Luckily, packing didn't take long and my family and I were able to go to Sweet Tomatoes for dinner, with a stop at TCBY for dessert, of course.

Project Runway premieres tonight and I am so excited!
Reading about all of the neogotiations between Bravo and Lifetime made me nervous. They kept us all wondering whether or not we would actually ever see season 6!

I don't watch the show, but Mad Men has been everywhere this week. It makes me want to start watching.
Well, the hype and the costumes. The wardrobe on that show is simply spectacular. As I've said a few times before, I'm a huge fan of the retro look and Mad Men captures it perfectly.

My "triplet" aka dearest cousin arrived in town yesterday to begin her college career in the great state of Texas and I could not be happier! We're pretty much the same person and I'm so excited that we'll get to see each other more than once a year!
I don't know what we'll be doing today, but I know it'll be fun!
And that it will probably involve ice cream at some point.

Also, I tried a new hair technique today - just got out of the shower, combed it and let it go. I'm actually quite pleased with how it waved, which is a pleasant surprise.

Today I'm singling out one of my favorite jewelry shops - My Lavaliere. Daniele De Peso's pieces are amazing - Parisian, vintage and ladylike...they are just calling out to be worn with silk, lace and velvet. Or a white v-neck tee - these baubles would work with anything!

This necklace gave me quite a bit of trouble this morning. It broke twice. Luckily, I was able to fix it both times with a pair of tweezers and a piece from another necklace.
The button up is one of my favorite tops. It's so comfortable and I love the way it fits - slouchy, but not too slouchy.

I've had this ring since about the 8th grade and I still love it to pieces. It looks so antique-y. And it's pink!

I'm going shopping with two of my guy friends today and it got me thinking about my favorite designer menswear.
Now, I'm a big fan of menswear. And not just the style for women. I mean actual menswear.
If my school had not just gotten rid of their tailoring class I would sign up asap just to learn how to make a good suit.

The best kind is the simple kind - a nice button up, a well-fitted jacket, a v-neck tee. Burberry usually pulls this off quite well...

I'm also loving a lot of the looks from H&M...

No wonder us girls like to borrow from the boys.

I have only one week left at home before I head back to school and I am hanging onto summer as best as I can.
I plan to spend my last few days in Dallas enjoying the comforts of being at home during the middle months of the year - sleeping in my nice, big bed, lounging by the pool, eating at my favorite restaurant...all too soon these things will be a good 6 hour drive away.
At least the weather will still be warm. For a little while.

Oh, to travel. I dream of the day when I can pack my bags and hop on a plane to some foreign land. Italy, Ireland, England, Greece, France, New Zealand...I want to see it all.
And I plan on doing so.

But when one intends to traverse the globe theres a very important element that you cannot overlook: luggage. Good, stylish luggage.

I think we can all agree that the definition of an American designer can be summed up in two words: Ralph Lauren.
I know there are others who are fantastic as well, but Ralph hits it out of the ballpark every single time.
Take, for instance, his latest collection. A little black dress, an outerwear staple, the perfect gown...it's all there. The colors are soft and delicate, the textures warm and velvety. The garments embody the Fall season, creating an image of golden leaves and a luminous moon in the early evening.

If you don't follow Amy Nadine The Beauty Queen, you absolutely must as soon as possible.
She is an amazing makeup artist who's work can be admired on her website.

In her most recent post she featured a few beautiful photos from a shoot for Malibu Magazine which I just have to share.
I love the vintage 1920s feel to them. The warm, earth tones remind one of a sizzling night spent dining and dancing, jazz and blues playing in the background.

And, of course, the golden, shimmering makeup is simply impeccable.

She Couldn't Resist the Urge to Cha-Cha

To be completely honest, I never gave much thought to Kate Spade.
I thought the designer's creations were more for the older crowd, those who had steady jobs and maybe a kid or two.
But yesterday, when I opened the latest issue of Marie Claire (which is spectacular, I might add), I saw a curious thing.
A Kate Spade ad...announcing the debut of the designer's clothing collection.
And the outfit was to. die. for.

I immediately went online and checked it out. And let me tell you - the entire collection is to die for! Polka dots, bows, ruffles, pink, lace, flowers, sparkles...could a girl ask for anything more?

I'm particularly in love with those polka dots. Of course, I swoon over pretty much anything cute and polka dotted, but this...this tops the charts. The blouse is incredibly versatile, as demonstrated in the above images. I also just adore the fur jacket, which you could also wear without about a hundred different things.

And who can forget what the designer is known best for - her handbags. This time around, they are bright, fun and practical. I can see myself carrying her purses anywhere - school, shopping, dinner...they simply work!
And who can forget her shoes? My favorites are the leopard print flats.

Another neat thing about Kate's new clothing are the short quips that accompany the designer's suggestions on "3 ways to wear it" on her website. Lines like "She looks for adventure at every corner" and "Fret? No. Fete? Yes." create an image of a girl who is a quirky, daring, vivacious fashionista.
And we all want to be that girl.

I am a BIG fan of the Olsen twins.
I loved their mysterey series when I was little, their videos when I was a bit older, their movies when I was a tween and now I admire the way they are so involved in the businesses that they have established and, of course, their style. Plus, they're twins, like me and my sister!
The way they dress is so amazingly casually chic and I plan on beginning to incorporate elements of it into my wardrobe.

Southfork Ranch is a lovely little spot. It's also quite famous.
I'm sure most of you have heard of the 80s television show "Dallas"? Well, Southfork is the locale that everyone came to associate with the question of "Who shot JR?"
My sister and I stopped by yesterday for a bit of sight seeing and decided that it was a lovely place to take some pictures.

Dance Your Heart Out

I don't know about you, but I am just addicted to the show So You Think You Can Dance. Every summer I cannot wait for a new season to start and see what kind of creative routines the choreographers come up with and what the new contestants bring to the show.

This season - I was an Evan fan.
I adore the Broadway style of dance and Evan performs it perfectly. Not only was he an expert at Broadway, but I thought he excelled at anything the choreographers threw at him.

My second favorite was Jeanine Mason, the dancer who ended up winning the show. And she justly deserved it! Jeanine is such a brilliant dancer and I really enjoyed watching her this season.

But SYTYCD does not only feature super talented dancers and choreographers - the costume designers and makeup artists are fantastic as well.
For each routine's story, there were wonderful outfits and looks to go with them.
Here are a few of my favorites...

The dances are beautiful. Routines with stories like a prince trying to steal a princess's throne, a friend longing to be more than a friend and even when one admires someones, well, butt are so inspiring.

And, of course, there is the fabulous, self-styled Cat Deeley.

I wait impatiently for the next season! Which, this year, starts September 16th!

Style Icon: Zooey Deschanel

Zooey Deschanel is one of my favorite actresses.
She was great in Elf, hilarious in Failure to Launch and wonderfully zany in Yes Man. I can't wait to see her in (500) Days of Summer, which looks like an adorable little indie.
Not only do I admire her acting abilities, but her style choices are simply splendid. She has that retro-vintage-modern thing down pat.

This purple dress she wore to the 2009 Grammy's is one of my all-time favorites of hers. It's just so perfect. The color, the asymmetrical shoulder, the brocade, the flowers...everything works!

The music of She & Him, a duet composed of Zooey and her friend, M. Ward, is superb. Her soothing voice and sweet songs are a joy to listen to.

Zooey's fashion sense emits a certain charm. Girly and dainty, daring and bold - she takes risks and pulls them off. I look forward to what she presents to us in the future!

Oh, and did I mention her flawless hair and makeup?

Going to bed at four in the morning can sure tire you out. But for friends and fun - it's worth it.
And part of that fun is, of course, dressing for whatever occasion causes you to party into the night.
Yesterday I wore a skirt that I made last weekend. I constructed it by simply tracing a skirt that I already own and then completing the pattern.
It's not perfect, but I am pretty pleased with the results.

While enjoying my breakfast the other morning, I picked up the latest Anthropologie catalog and began to browse its pages.
What I saw pleasantly surprised me.
In place of your typical model that one would see featured in magazines and catalogs, the good people at Anthropologie displayed...you. Yes, you.
For their latest edition, the store went to Paris, New York and London and captured real people wearing their clothes.

Anthropologie really hit home with this one. After all, the majority of the people in this world, the real people, are not fashion models - but we do like to look nice. And we're beautiful, too.

A Girl Can Dream

So I'm nowhere near getting married anytime soon (19 - hello!), but I can't help but be obsessed with wedding dresses. And everything else associated with a wedding, but we don't need to go there quite yet.

Where we should go is to Style Me Pretty's look book, where they feature some of the best big-day dresses I have seen.
Where else can you find dreamy, floaty, fariy tale dresses than in a wedding catalog? And you have to admit - even if you do not see nuptials in the near future or if they have already occured, its just fun to look.

I adore bright colors. They're a fantastic way of livening up your wardrobe.
And I just love it when you find that perfect shade of a certain color that you've been looking for.
For instance, I do not believe myself capable of pulling off some yellows. I have to be very careful. I prefer a good sunflower or poppy flower hue. A touch of deep gold and I'm walking on sunshine.

When I saw this top at Forever 21 I just had to have it. It screams "Happy!" and "I'm on vacation on the Mediterranean coast!"
Paired with shimmery gold sandals, which, believe it or not, are Birkenstocks, and you've got yourself an incredibly cheerful outfit.

What I Would Wear...If I Ran The Circus

The circus seems to be quite the popular theme nowadays.
Although I've never been to an actual circus, I consider myself a fan of the theme. I don't believe I would enjoy the real thing - all of those poor animals and creepy characters - but I like the colors, the stripes, the weird and zany appeal of it.
Forever 21 just developed an oh-so-cute line called Twist which features a different theme for each new collection. This time around they entitled it "Cirque".
So, to jump on the band wagon (although, in my defense, I have owned a Dr. Seuss "If I Ran The Circus" sleep shirt since I was about 14), I thought I would show you what I would wear if I actually ran the circus.
A glamorously chic circus, I might add.

The Old-Fashioned Type

One day I will own a typewriter.
Not to actually use, mind you, but simply for decoration purposes.
The presence of a typewriter just makes one think of love letters, whodunit detective novels and a simpler time - before all of the high-speed, high-definition technology we have today.

As I was browsing the blogosphere the other morning, I came across a post at Daydream Lily that featured a link to a wonderful photographer on Flickr,
Lillyan Lilac.
Her photos are simply splendid and old-fashioned; uncomplicated and not photoshopped to death.

If only I had that typewriter to set on an antique bookshelf, nestled between pages and pages of classic literature and rustic bookends.

For now, I'll keep my bright pink Dell laptop and dream of when I can own such a vintage treasure.

Pretty Prada Prints

Seeing as I was up extremely late last night (or rather, very early this morning), I decided to spend today lounging in the big, comfy chair in my living room, reading magazines. As I devoured the pages of the August issue of Vogue, I came upon a short article about Miuccia Prada's Resort 2010 collection.
One glance at the picture and I knew it was love.

The line's beautiful neutral creams and taupes create a soft background for the lovely pastels, brights and prints. And, oh, the prints. Could one ever dream of finding such wonderful wallpaper-esque patterns? The vintage, girly feel of the collection is simply to die for. It makes one long to be on an elite cruise, sailing the Mediteranean, with only her yellow bikini and light, airy scarf tucked into her handbag.

God Blessed Texas

I spent about 4 hours in a car today.
I don't mind because it was in order to pick up my "triplet" (aka my cousin Katie) from Waco...but oh dear. Sitting in a car that long does take its a toll.
Oh well. Three motrins and an apple later and I'm feeling much better.

Before hitting the road we stopped at Panera Bread, our favorite place for breakfast.

The drive to Waco is quite flat, but also quite pretty. I just love that big Texas sky!

We had lunched at this adorable little cafe in Waco, near the Baylor campus. It was within an adorable boutique where we spotted these oh-so-Texan signs:

Rain and clouds have prevailed these past few days in northern Texas. It has been making me crave sunshine even more than usual. The later weeks of summer are suppose to be sunny, not blustery.

Another thing I have been dying for this summer is good tennis playing conditions. But, alas, it has either been terribly wet or melt-in-your-K-Swiss-tennis-sneaks hot.

Which brings me to this weeks edition of What I Would Wear Wednesday.
Let me present What I Would Wear...If I Were Playing Tennis At A Posh New England Country Club:

Not your typical tennis wardrobe, but I'd rather be chic than logical.
I love the color combo of burgundy and blue - it reminds me of a scholarly institution where everyone lounges around in Ralph Lauren and the United Colors of Bennetton, listening to Vampire Weekend on their iPods.
I kept the jewelry at a minimum with simple pink pearl studs. Anything else would have been a bit too much for this sporty look.
And how cute is that racquet cover? Unfortunately, I can't find where you can still purchase it online, but it used to be available at Fred Flare.
If tennis isn't your sport, you can still work this outfit off of the court. Perhaps to an afternoon tea on a veranda overlooking the coast of Maine?

Golden Locket

I love lockets. The thought of a meaningful photo lurking behind the hinges lends a bit of mysterey and intrique to this timeless piece of jewelry. Soft and delicate, they remind one of the things that make them happy, the things that bring joy to their life, the monumentous events that have affected them.

I found a fantastic twist on the classic locket on Etsy the other day.
It was created by Good Girls Studio, a shop that deconstructs and recreates wonderful vintage pieces.

When you think of a locket a necklace typically comes to mind. Thats why I love this ring. Its unexpected and unique. Plus, it makes the photo placed inside much more accessible. You could even put two in - one on each side. I love bold, statement pieces, so this large gold ring would be quite suitable for my collection.
The silver filagree is not only gorgeous, but adjustable as well, guaranteeing a perfect fit.
The amazing thing about this vintage piece is that it already has a story embedded in it. Someone has worn this and carried a photo of something or someone that they love very close to them. Its up to the next wearer to continue the tale and add some of their own happiness.

Before my sister and I leave with our parents for our traditional Birthday Eve dinner at Sweet Tomatoes, I thought I would share with you what we are wearing for the occasion.

On myself...

We always dine at Sweet Tomatoes the night before our birthday because that is the restaurant that my mother and father ate at the night before we were born. And it just so happens to be our favorite restaurant in the world. Pretty cool coincidence, no?

Everything we are wearing is either from Forever 21 or American Eagle, with the exception of my ring, which is one of my most valued treasures.
Another tradition my sister and I have is purchasing an Italian glass ring at the Italian pavilion in the World Showcase at Epot at Disney World. The orange and blue one shown above is the only one I have not managed to smash into a million little pieces (those incidents made for a very sad day, let me tell you) and I am a bit overprotective of it.
I still have the bits of the others and I intend to create something with them though. Waste not, afterall.

And with that, we are off! I'm hungry and a 45 foot salad bar is calling my name!

That was fun.
Unfortunately, its all a bit out of my price range.
But who doesn't love to window shop every once in awhile?

The dress is a lovely, light floral number that would be perfect for a summer night out to dinner. The earrings and ring have a nice earthy feel to them, which compliments the dress, and the bag is understated, yet a good staple piece. I downplayed these pieces so that the bright turquise shoes could stand out vividly.

On another note - I probably won't be posting for the next few days. I might be able to write up a quick snippet on what I will be wearing, but I don't think I will have time for anything more than that!
You see, my cousin/"triplet" is coming into town tonight and its my birthday tomorrow with a party on Friday.
I will probably write another full post next Tuesday.

Oh, how I love Barnes and Noble. I often spend hours simply browsing the aisles, reading book summaries and making a mental list of all of the literature I just need to read.
That store is my cure for boredom.
Nothing to do? See whats new at B&N. Maybe pick up a few magazines while I'm there. (Or that super random coffee table book. Whatever.)

Today, I purchased two books. They were such a great deal that I just couldn't help myself.

The first one I spotted was this:

I quite like quirky books. Random, unique, often crazy facts are just so fun. So, when I saw this I had to have it. Plus, it was on sale for $5. How could I pass that up?

Then I found this little gem:

Being the Disney fanactic that I am, I snatched up the single copy left on the bargain shelf. And such a steal at only $6!

(There were also quite a few cookbooks I drooled over, but I figured I would save those for another day)

Both, I'm sure, will be fascinating reads.

After all - I had no idea that there is a colony of cats that live in the Magic Kingdom and help control the rodent population. Did you?

Just a quick update on the romper I was sewing before I get to the real subject of this post: I royally messed it up. And I'm out of fabric. So, alas, I am ending the project.
BUT I am learning and I suppose ruining things is all part of the process.
If anyone knows of a place that sells romper patterns please let me know!

Now, on to happier things...

Its hard to choose a favorite house of fashion, but I think I may take a risk and pick a number one for my list: Marchesa. (With Chanel [and quite a few others] in a close second)
Its difficult to find one thing that is ever off with the brand. Georgina Chapman is a consistent genius, regularly blowing me away with her creations. And her Fall 09 Ready to Wear line just made me weak at the knees.

This collection is a perfect fairytale. Pinks, greys, purples, blues, with a touch of black to add some definition. Chapman incorporated a million things I love - layers of tulle, heaps of glitter, ruffles, roses, lace...everything you need to be a proper princess.
And, honestly, what girl doesn't want to be a princess?

My Purple Skirt

I'm awfully proud of my purple skirt.
Its nothing too special. Its not complex or unique. Its not even my own design.
But its the first real article of clothing I ever sewed.
And, therefore, to me, it is awesome.

Today, in 1955, Disneyland opened its gates to its very first guests.

Those lucky enough to get a ticket (or forge one or climb the fence, as many did) were there to witness the beginning of something too fantastic for words. The park has lived on, bringing magic to the lives of millions of people every year.
As Walt said...

“To all who come to this happy place; welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past...and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Just for Fun

I read fashion magazines.

Okay, okay.
I look at the pictures.

And occasionally scan an article.

But, most often, my favorite parts are the photoshoots and the advertisements. These tend to be the most creative aspects of the issues, laden with vibrant, unqiue pictures and riveting stories. In fact, the stories are what I look for in such images.

So when I find a particular photoshoot or ad that I adore, my mind starts buzzing and whirring and coming up with all sorts of concoctions.
For example, my top-choice as of right now is the Tous ads featuring Kylie Minogue.

I love the ruffles, candy, party setting and giant stuffed bear, which is just too adorable. It takes you back to celebrating your birthday as a kid, when everyone had huge parties with games, cake, and ice cream; the excitement, and sugar levels, reaching an all-time high. The images are cute, playful and stylish, a goal we all try to achieve when choosing what to wear.
The pastel pink, blue, and green look lovely with the peach, fuschia, and browns. Everything about these photos just emits...well...fun. That is the best and simplest word for it. And who doesn't love fun?

Thats why I love fashion. Every piece of clothing has the ability to tell a story. Every piece has a bit of inspiration behind it. Even when you go shopping, you have a specific look for yourself in mind; a vision of yourself that you want to project to the world.
Dress for you are and, also, who you want to be. Tell your story. Make your story

What I Would Wear Wednesday

Occasionally I feature a picture of myself and my sister displaying what clothes and accessories we've thrown together for a day.
But, to be completely honest, lately the number of lazy days I've been having is getting far into the double digits. Blame it on the English 1302 class I just finished or the hot, hot, hot Texas summer heat, but some days I just can't bring myself to get out of my comfy oversized tees and boxer shorts. It has been, on average, about 105 here every day...you try stepping outside, let alone putting on makeup. It melts in a matter of seconds.
But I do still adore dressing up and doing my hair and makeup. I do so as often as possible, but the summer...ah, the summer. For a college student its the time to sit back, relax, and not get out of your pajamas. Oh wait. That may apply for the school year too...hm.
Ah, well. Back to my original point.
My lack of what-I-personally-wore-today pictures got me thinking...what if I post pictures of what I would wear if I were venturing out of my house? I wouldn't even have to own the clothes I post. I could just think they are fantastic, wish I owned them, and show them to you.
It could be inspirational.

So, let me formally introduce you to What I Would Wear Wednesday. A weekly item devoted to putting together wonderful outfits from around the web.

I love classic New England style. I gave this outfit a twist by adding a touch of gold jewelry and a purple bag, which compliments the coral-orange in the top. The white shorts and shoes keep the outfit crisp and clean and the attention on the bold colors on top. I like the idea of a smaller, cross-body bag balancing the wide stripes of the shirt.
It reminds me of a shopping day at the outlets in Portland, Maine.

HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE OPENS TONIGHT!
Well, techincally, tomorrow morning.
But I'm getting to the theater 3 hours early, ticket in hand, so it seems like it'll be tonight.
Could I be any more excited?!
No. Not since the 7th book came out and I awaited at Barnes and Noble at midnight have I been this psyched.

In honor of this great occasion my sister and I did what we do: made shirts.

As you can tell, we are massive HP fans. And have been since the very first book came out in 1998. I can't remember there not being a time when I have not been anxiously awaiting the next installment in the book or movie series.

And now theres going to be a theme park!
I think my head might explode. Although, I'm sure a quick trip to St. Mungo's would fix me right up.

Etsy Love

Did you just think of amazingly skilled home-based craftswoman and men?
I know you did.

Admittedly, I discovered etsy after the rest of the world. But, hey, I didn't have a twitter back then. I wasn't even signed up for any kind of in-the-know e-newsletters.
But better late than never, I say.

I love browsing the easily navigable site. Theres so many interesting and unique items for sale. Anything from cards to cupcake picks to ceramics.

My favorite thing to ogle over at Etsy, though, is the impressive handmade clothing and accessories.

Take, for instance, Lulufinder. Her rompers and dresses are fabulously vintage and trendy. Overlayed with delicate ruffles and lace, her creations are simply eye candy.

Claire La Faye has crazy, fun pieces to admire, although they are a bit on the pricier side. She plays with costume and fantasy, but includes pieces that are suitable for everyday as well.

You can find truly fantasic hair accessories at Pegasus Maiden. The pieces are inexpensive and they even have different items with free shipping each week.

Lamixx features wonderfully simply creations. Its a great shop for basics with a twist.

One of the coolest shops I've stumbled upon is Oxford Heaven. Not only do they sell darling, delightful worthy-of-Marie-Antoinette shoes (as they rightfully advertise) but they will also take your own shoes and transfrom them into spectacularly embellished footwear. This is such a grand, exciting idea.
And, if you don't have any shoes you already own that you wish to send, I suggest going to a thrift store, your local Good Will or a Payless and buying an inexpensive pair to UPS.

Happy Me, Summer Me

When it comes to patterns, polka dots are just so...cutesy. I don't know if its possible to dislike them. They just make you happy.
Dots also have a way of reminding one of a vintage summer, like sunny, grassy picnics and warm sand on a California beach in the 1940s and 50s.
The recent hot weather and the fact that it is the month of July have inspired me to create something based upon said decades, which are two of my personal favorites.
I decided upon a romper. Not only have I been wanting one for quite some time now, but its simple and chic, a throwback to the style of that time. The one I have designed is based upon the extremely modest swimsuits girls wore back then.

I drew up a pattern (fingers crossed its correct!) and purchased fabric.

I'm going to begin sewing it today and, hopefully, premiere it at my birthday party in 2 weeks! I'll post about my progress, although it shouldn't take me long to assemble.

And of course, I'll be listening to Frank & Dean whilst I work. =)

Shake It Like A Polaroid Picture

I learned of it via The Cupcake Diary , one of my favorite blogs.
I have always longed for a Polaroid camera, but it never seemed particularly practical. Plus, according to my online research, its about $16 for every 10 pictures. Holy extremely over priced.
I figured my hopes of owning such a photo capturing device had come to an end.
But wait!

All Dolled Up

Today I thought I would try something new.
So what, you ask, did I do?
I threw on a dainty headband
And an eyeshadow of purpley-blue!

What resulted was a look that was fairly doll-like.
Instead of the usual coppery-shimmery-brown that I apply to my eyelids, I decided to veer in a completely different direction - periwinkle.
I've had this eyeshadow set of assorted purples and pinks sitting under my sink for quite some time now and had only ever really used the light pink. And even then, just as a highlighter.
So, today I figured I'd take a risk. And who doesn't love periwinkle?
I went easy at first, applying it layer by layer. I've seen one to many girls look like they got hit in the face with a paint bucket to dive right in.
But I think I got it right. I kept it subtle with black shadow as liner and mascara.

I also thought I would top off the look with a nice headband. Easy and simple.

Today, I would like to mention a terrible tragedy that occured over the 4th of July weekend at my favorite, most treasured place on earth - Walt Disney World.
Twenty-one year old student Austen Wuennenberg was killed when Monorail Purple collided with Monorail Pink, which he was piloting. It is a dreadful, dreaful accident that I cannot believe happened.
I have ridden the monorail what seems like thousands of times and I never thought anything of this caliber could occur.

A video that a woman on vacation at WDW captured just a week before the incident depicts a young man with a kind, friendly spirit, someone who perfectly embodies a fantastic Disney cast memeber.

Fashion Icon #1

In honor of the fact that I purchased my tickets to the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince today (could I be anymore excited?), I thought I would discuss one of my main fashion icons - Emma Watson.
Emma is one of the few actresses that I am actually a legitimate fan of, as an actress and as a person. She seems like a genuinely nice girl with a good head on her shoulders, unlike a lot of other famous young woman nowadays. I have always admired her determination to acquire a good education despite the fact that she could probably live comfortably for the rest of her life without another day of work.
In addition, her style is nothing short of impeccable. I don't think I've ever seen her in an outfit that I have disliked. I've read that her favorite and go-to designer is Chanel, which, if I had the money, would be mine as well, so its no wonder that I admire her fashion sense. She is always classy and elegant, whether casual or formal.

I had never made the trip to this particular farmer's market until today, when my mother suggested I join her.
Now, I must confuse: I am a bit of a nutrition nut. I love reading about the latest discoveries in food sciences, I'm up on all my antioxidants, and I always eat my whole grains. I'm working on the Omega-3 thing.
Sprouts is a health freak's heaven. You can just sense the organic and naturalness when you walk through the doors. Fresh breads, perfect fruit, and tantalizing vegetables.
I didn't have long in the store so I only explored three or four aisles, but I am going back tomorrow to do some more inspecting.

Another discovery from today: dried fruit.

I have always been skeptical of this mysterious snack, but, assured by my cousin that dired pineapple was "to. die. for.", I tried a bit of it. Four small bags of dried pineapple, banana, apricot, and vegetables, to be exact.
And let me tell you...I have a new favorite snack!
I was tempted to eat it all, but I resisted (except for the veggies; I ate all of those).
I highly reccommend them as a healthy, nutritious snack. In moderation, as always, of course.

A shopping day is one of those things that can just make you so incredibly happy.

My sister and I arrived at the mall around noon - a perfect time to enjoy a Strawberry Nirvana from Jamba Juice. Major yum.
We scored some sweet swag at F21, Hollister, Madewell, and Urban Outfitters.

Being more interested in costumes than regular ol' fashion (although, I am thoroughly obsessed with both, of course), I typically bypass viewing the ready-to-wear collections first on style.com and head straight to the couture.
Now, I will admit, I'm rather behind right now. But I have a perfectly acceptable excuse: school. At college, you don't have time to sit down and just browse through collections. Fortunately, thats what summer is for.
At least, thats what my summer is for.

This Spring 2009 Couture collection makes me wish I lived in France in the 1950s, moving in elite circles where wonderful, elaborate parties and glamourous, embellished people were abundant. The full circle skirts are heavenly. If only people today still wore those on a day-to-day basis. The world would be a nicer, daintier place.

Now, I must say, I am an absolutely connoisseur of polka dots. So, when I saw both Lacroix's black and white spotted coat and pink flowered gown, I almost died. One's mind cannot imagine what I would do to own such pieces. But I simply adore this entire collection. The colors, the shapes, the movement... The ode to extravagance speaks to me. Lacroix is positively an inspiration to someone aspiring to be a designer of all things exaggerated and beautiful.

Maybe the feeling of getting an awesome haircut after 4 months have passed since your last haircut which caused so many dead ends your hair could warrant its own funeral, for only $20.
Yes, that is definitely far better.
And I have bangs again. Oh, happy day!

Do you know what else is exciting?
An unexpected celebrity sighting.
Especially when you thought you were only venturing out of the house to enjoy some delicious frozen yogurt with a very good friend.
Which I did, at the beginning of my Thursday evening. My sister and I drove into the city to meet a friend at I Heart Yogurt, which is a simply adorable, not to mention delectable, little establishment.
But before we could sit and enjoy our fro yo in the lime green plastic chairs that inhabit the shop, we had to battle the parking lot. Battle the parking lot? you ask. Why yes. There were so many cars that there was not ONE space to park. Not even a compact space for my sister's compact car. Why are there so many people here?! we asked ourselves, entirely frustrated (Especially at the gigantic SUVs who parked crooked, taking up two spaces. I mean, come on. Really?!). Finally, we accepted the fact that we were going to be forced to park across the street. After finding a space and dashing across traffic, we found our friend and were able to enjoy our frozen treats. While doing so, we discussed what could be causing all the commotion. Texan dinner time rush? Everyone wanted fro yo? There was a sale at the Gap? During our debate, a girl, dressed nicely in a white, belted sundress, walked in, carrying a book under her arm. The title read "L.A. Candy". The author? Lauren Conrad. My sister, my friend, and myself quickly conferred and agreed that there must be a book signing over at the Borders that was located in the same center as the yogurt shop. I sprung out of my chair and asked the girl with the book whether this was, in fact, the case. She confirmed our suspicion and, consequently, decided what we were doing for the rest of the evening.
Now, I am not a Hills fan. I watched the first season of Laguna Beach eons ago and concluded that it was not my kind of television. Despite my distaste for the show, I have always been a fan of Lauren. Well, more precisely, her hair and clothing. She has fantastic style. Its a great mix of sophistication and California chill. Laid back, but consistently chic.

We skipped over to Borders, proclaiming that this was a wonderful summertime surprise. What a fantastic story this will make! we said.
We entered the store and, after asking an employee how exactly to proceed, purchased a book and stood in line to meet the reality star. My friend had to leave early, but my sister and I stuck it out. After only about an hour or so, we were at the front of the line. I walked to the table, niceties were exchanged, she signed my book, and I told her I loved her hair. She said that it took awhile to do and that the weather here didn't quite agree with it. My response? "Oh yeah. Texas. Ugh." I know, I know. How polite and charming. But she was very nice and smiled anyway.

On another pop culture note, I finally saw Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen last night.

I say finally because I felt like I was the only person on the planet to have not seen it. It was all the buzz on Twitter and the amount of money it made opening night ($16 million, I believe) suggested a monstrous crowd. I could hardly wait to see it ever since the very first preview came out and I was not going to wait much longer!
So, after viewing it, I have to say I am very pleased. It was fantastic. Slightly cheesy at some parts, super heavy on the special effects, but, hey, thats what I like! Overall, it was intense, funny, and extrememly entertaining. A job well done to Michael Bay and the gang!
And I will be try to be there opening night for Transformers 3!

Darling its better down where its wetter

I've always wanted to be a mermaid.
I think every little girl says this at least once in their life. If they like swimming, that is. If you were (or still are) afraid of the water, I doubt you would dream of being an underwater creature.
But I love the water. Particularly the ocean, but lakes and pools are cool too.
In my quest to discover how to transform into a person of the deep, I realized that, alas, it is impossible. Instead of grieving over this fact, I have decided to the next best thing: dress like one.
Now, don't think I'm crazy. I don't mean all the time and I don't mean full out costume. What I do mean is hints and tidbits of an sea theme. Glints of opal, irredesence, and turquoise. Coral, purple hues, true blue, delicate gold jewlery, and, most importantly, sparkle. Glimmer. Shimmer. Shine.

Lately, I've found myself envisioning a mermaid gown, half costume, half something one could actually wear. I plan on drawing up a pattern for such a garment quite soon and have created an inspiration board to assist my imagination.

I hope to be able to make a trip to the fabric store pretty soon to purchase some supplies. Its going to take awhile (hand sewing paillettes! ah!), but it'll be worth it!

For now, I'll be devotin' full time to floatin' under the sea.

The Academy Awards are big.
Big names, big movies, big fashions, big glamour.
And now its gotten even bigger.
10 times bigger, to be exact.

And now that "big" has lost all meaning, I shall get to my point.

The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has made the decision to expand the Best Picture category, allowing up to ten nominations. The last time the Oscars had that many films nominated was in 1943, when Casablanca took home the statue.
I have yet to find an article that states exactly why the Academy has changed the rules, but I personally think that it will be for the good. For instance, if this year's show had allowed more nominees maybe Batman would have had a shot at the little golden man. Don't get me wrong - I whole-heartedly believe that Slumdog Millionaire was by far the perfect choice for Best Picture. That movie is amazingly beautiful in every possible way. But even the chance for more films to be recognized as fantastic enough to nominated will be excellent. Maybe we'll begin to see movies that have previously been shunned by members of the Academy, such as just-as-sensational summer blockbusters, comedies, or action movies, on the list of boxes they'll have the opportunity to check off.

What films do I hope to see given the opportunity to earn the the highest honor at the 2010 ceremonies? Well, I've got my fingers crossed for Up and Star Trek, so far. But there are many more movies from this year that I have yet to enjoy!

Speaking of twitter...I am officially obsessed. Where has it been all of my life?! I can't imagine what I did before. Where did my news come from? How was I informed of the latest audio animatronic addition to Disney World? Why did I not care what Adam Shankman had for breakfast?!
(Btw - I'm pretty sure Adam is one of my favorite people. Ever. Not that I've ever met him. But boy wouldn't that be fantastic!)

As for my recent fashion expeditions...well, they've been slightly limited. Forever 21 has become my BFF. Which is definitely not a bad thing, but I am serevely missing certain stores that I used to frequent. But, ah, the economy.
The other week I actually resorted to counting the change that I have kept in my giant purple cryaon bank since I was about 6 years old. But holy smokes am I rolling in it now! Who knew that one could collect so many dimes and nickels?!

Despite my lack of dough, I HAVE added a few items to my wardrobe over the past month. A few cute summer dresses,
like this one , a floral top in the perfect shades of green and blue, an adorable 1950s shade of teal pocket tank, and quite a few pieces of jewelry, my favorites being some oversized gold earings with flowers and some very moroccan-looking bangles. Everything from F21, of course.
Oh, I did get one top from Madewell. Want to hear the story? Its like a shopping fairy tale, I promise.
So a few months ago, over spring break, I visited North Park and, obviously, made a stop at Madewell. Dreaming of warm weather, I devoured the shelves and racks covered in tanks, shorts, dresses, and sandals. Looking for something completely summery, yet obtaining details that are of-the-moment, I stumbled upon the perfect top. White. Sleevless. Pleats. Billowy. AND, get this, a zipper on the upper back with an adorable ribbon hanging from the pull. I must purchase this; this must reside in my closet, I thought. My eyes scanned the shirt, searching for a price tag, but when I found it, my heart dropped. $80. $80?! Oh no. I couldn't pay that. Were they crazy? Well, no. I'm sure its beautifully crafted and made out of wonderful material, yielding it undeniably comfortable with an excellent fit...I had to stop myself. I put the shirt back on the rack and walked away.
Fast forward a few months. Same setting, yet this time the action takes place in the sale section. Imagine: a wonderful area of the store where a sign reading "Extra %25" immediately brings a smile to anyones face. I'm pushing top after top back, hoping to strike it big. And there, before my very eyes, is the top. My mouth drops as I pull it out to see the markdown - $30. $30?! I can do $30! And wait! I have forgotten the extra %25 off! I pull out my cellphone before you could say "HOLY LUCKY DAY!" and punch in the calculation. Lets see...30 x .25 = $7.50 so 30 - $7.50 = $22.50. A glorious $22.50! And in my size! There were larger forces at work here. Any shopper knows what a find this is. I skipped into the dressing room, slipped it on, and it was love at first sight.
Now the top is hanging in my closet, begging to be worn, but I am holding out for now. I'm thinking this kind of thing calls for a special occasion. Or at least for when I feel like looking extra cute.

A Look Back

The day has come.
The moment I have been waiting several months for.
The last day of my first year of college.

And, boy, did time fly.
It feels like I just moved in and now I'm moving out. I'm selling my books, packing up my clothes, and returning my mini fridge.
I've completed 2 out of 3 finals projects and the remaining one isn't exactly a challenge.

Its weird to look back and think that this time last year I was getting ready to go on my senior trip. And then graduate.
I feel so much older. I'm not sure why or in what way, but I do. Maybe it was living away from home for the first time. Or having to deal with things like setting up my own schedule and buying parking permits. Or maybe it was buying my own groceries.
I've met so many people, made so many good friends, and grown in many ways.
I feel much more in control of my future and can clearly see where I want to go. I'm figuring out who and what I want to be and how to become that person. My dreams don't seem so far away. In fact, they seem right around the corner. From this side of high school, the years seem much shorter.
Going from a small private high school to a massive public college sounds like it would be just a smidge difficult, but I really didn't find it to be so. Then again, I've never been in "the bubble" as so many private school kids are. But I still expected to, I don't know, have a bit of a harder time adapting. And I did have a tough time for a little while, but it was only because I missed home. But I overcame it and now I love being at TTU.

And while a lot of things have changed, a lot of things havn't.
I feel that I'm still the same person, just a bit more mature.
I still have the same best friends, I still love hanging out with my parents, I still like the same things that I always have. I have remained strong in my faith and have never once done anything that is "typical" of college students.
And, I must say, I am quite proud of that.

I've become even more determined to reach my goals, both short and long term. I'm getting WAY excited about my future and can't wait to be working at a job that I love. And I am going to do anything possible to get that job.

Now, after this reflection, I am going to go do one of the same things that I was doing this time last year.
Watching American Idol and anticipating all of the fun things that lay ahead.

Why is it so hard to establish a functioning, high speed internet connection on a college campus? Why?
Everything is online nowadays. I take reading quizzes online, I register for my classes online, I get emails from my professors... You would think a university would recognize how important a reliable connection would be.
But no.
A million times a day my computer informs me that AOL explorer is not responding and would I like to close the program? No. No, I would NOT like to close the program! I would like to continue using the program in order to complete whatever it is I'm doing! No matter how slow it may be going anyway. (Which, I have to say, is so slow you'd think my computer had the technology of a typerwriter.)
Seriously, Tech. Lets get with the twenty-first century, shall we?

Other then my world wide web woes, things are going quite smoothly. I'm ahead on all of my projects, theres only 5 days of classes left, summer to look forward to, the techSTYLE fashion show on Wednesday... If only I didn't have a POLS test on Tuesday, everything would be just dandy. And even that isn't too much of a pain.

Speaking of the techSTYLE fashion show, I just realized I havn't mentioned it before.
At Texas Tech, the senior ADM students always put on a fashion show exhibiting their work from their past few years in school. This year there are 29 designers and, from what I hear, its going to be quite the turn-out.
As an ADM student, I'm required to help in some way, so I signed my sister and I up to model in the show. I'm in 3 designers shows and cannot wait to walk down that runway!
Actually, I cannot wait to be one of the designers!
But I've got 4 years before that happens.

Yesterday was quite the eventful day for Lubbock, weather-wise.
We had a tornado warning. I've been told this happens quite a bit in Lubbock, but I hope thats not true. I had just arrived back in my room after working in the sewing lab when the intercom buzzer went off. It was followed by a voice instructing all residents to procede to the basement so as to not get sucked up by a tornado. Well, they didn't say that, but thats what they meant.
Now, the basement in my dorm is not all that large. And it has old, broken washers and dryers crammed in there. Lets just say it was not a pleasant place to be surrounded by 100+ people. It got hot. And I was hungry. I hadn't eaten since 11 and 6 o'clock was slowly approaching. My sister, who is slightly claustrophobic, was on the edge of a panic attack. The walls were closing in. It smelled like wet people.
A friend of mine arrived a few minutes after I entered the basement and informed me that it was hailing outside. She had got caught driving back from work in it and barely made it, seeing as how she couldn't see out of her windshield.
After 45 minutes, we were allowed out of what I thought was certainly going to be my tomb and walking upstairs was like a breath of fresh air. Actually, it was a breath of fresh air.
My friend, my sister, and I then decided to brave the flooded streets in search of food, since we were all quite famished. We went to Bless Your Heart where I enjoyed soup, a refreshing salad, a slice of bread, and delish fro yo. It definitely hit the spot.
Later that night it started hailing quite heavily. I thought my window was about to shatter when large grape sized balls of ice started pounding on it.
I havn't checked on my poor little car. I hope theres no damage.

Well, I suppose its time for me to start in on my POLS homework.
Sheesh. Can't a girl catch a break?

Finally.
A weekend with little homework.
Its a rare thing. Marvelous, but rare.
And only 3 weeks and 2 days of classes left until summer!

I must say, last night I have never felt both more Texan and more out of place at once.
Last night...I attended my first rodeo.
And it was quite the show, let me tell you!
It had everything that pops into your mind when you think of a rodeo - lassos, cows, barrel racing, bull riding, a rodeo clown and...clogging? Well, okay, that last bit slightly surprised me, but the guy was good! And who doesn't like a nice clog dance every now and then?
Some of the "sport" made me a bit uncomfortable, such as when they lasso a calf and tie its legs together, mostly in 7 or 8 seconds, but I was assured by my local Texas friends that the calves come to no harm and are promptly pampered following the event. I certainly hope so. They deserve a nice mani/pedi after being thrown to the ground and tied up.
The bull riding was by far the most exciting! My dad used to be a bull rider, but I had never seen a show before seeing as he participated in the sport quite a few years before I exsisted. I actually found myself yelling at the riders to hang on, and most of them managed to. Expect for one cowboy who got banged up pretty bad. It was frightening to watch him almost get trampled by a bucking bull!
One thing to note (and I have to, being the fashion junkie that I am) was the insane amount of leather, turquoise, chunky beads, and tote bags embellished with studded crosses. Oh my darlin, I've never felt more immersed in southern culture in all my life!
Also, it made me finalize my decision about getting some cowgirl boots. I think I need them. And I would love to own these:

I never sleep in.
I hate sleeping.
Its such a colossal waste of time.
Think of all the hours of your life that you spend sleeping. Doing nothing. Just laying there.
If we never had to sleep...if human beings could just exist with massive amounts of energy and never required recharging...we could do so much more!
I'm not saying we would solve world hunger or cure the common cold or anything, but I think it would be a big help.
You'd also have less wrinkles. Cause of the whole cotton pillowcase thing.
But I suppose I'll just have to keep dreaming.
Hm. Theres a contradiction.

Now, I don't know about you, but I find twitter insanely addicting. I tweet all the time! About anything. And everything.
Its great. My friends have twitters so I can keep up with their going-ons and they can see what I'm up to.
I follow others such as the Dallas Morning News, Sam Champion, E! News, and Disney News sites so I can be up on all the breaking stories.
Why did no one think of twitter before?!
Its way better then Facebook.

Oh, that reminds me...
On Friday I took a trip to Barnes & Noble to find a new book. I just finished reading Of Mice and Men and, while I enjoyed it immensely, my favorite kinds of books are typically slightly more...adventurous.
So, I knew exactly which author to look for for my next read: Jules Verne.
I read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea last summer and, sadly, havn't read anything else by Verne since. But I fell absolutely in love with Leagues. Its a mysterious old-time voyage on the deep blue sea, filled with intrique, suspense, drama, emotion, and beautiful descriptions of the ocean and its inhabitants.
It made me want to live in a submarine.
Or, at least, spend a day in one.
Because of this, I bought another well known title by the author, Around the World In Eighty Days. I'm only a few pages into it so I can't exactly sing its praises yet, but I already love the main character, Phileas Fogg. Hes eccentric, always on time, and has suits for every season.
And, come on, the man flies around the world in a hot air balloon. How cool is that?

I think I have to get into the routine of actually blogging.
A week and a few days is too long to go without an update, isn't it?
Terribly sorry. I'll try not to let it happen again!

I started working on my dress but due to homework and social commitments, I was unable to complete it. I had to leave my machine at home seeing as theres about a sqaure foot of space left in my dorm room so I won't be able to work on it again until summer break (5 weeks! Not even that, actually). I might be able to do a bit over Easter weekend, but I'm not sure.
Either way, it will get done!

Abercrombie & Fitch, Urban Outfitters, and other stores may be more hit or miss, but sometimes you can luck out.

So be more money conscious and spend wisely. You can find cute and inexpensive things. And if it goes out later, hey, it was only a few bucks.

My sewing machine arrived yesterday!
I anxiously waited several hours (which I spent at Northpark! Hooray!) until I heard the gentle hum of the UPSs truck idling by the curb.
Its a Singer 7470 and its b-e-a-utiful!

I've only used it to work on my clothing construction homework so far, but I have purchased the supplies needed to create a fabulous dress, which I hope to begin working on very soon!

This isn't very much of an entry, but I just had to make that announcement! I am so excited!

I'll post about my shopping excursion later (or tomorrow).

Oh, and HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY!

The Magic's In The Makeup

I'm on the hunt for a new foundation.

Having never found THEE perfect tinted mouisturizer and/or foundation for me, I have been constantly switching products since I started applying the stuff. I'm currently using Laura Geller Phenomenal Foundation, which works fairly well, but tends to feel a little heavy toward the end of the day. It also doesn't do much for my excessive oil problem.

I've also been thinking I would try a skin brightening formula. Ever since I've been staying at Texas Tech, my skin has become incredibly dull. I don't know if its because of lack of sleep or lack of mouisture, but either way, it looks like a constantly cloudy day.
And I very much prefer sunshine.

During my research I stumbled upon a product that sounds promising - Clinique Makeup Clear Skin Forumla.

Now, I don't exactly need the Clear Skin part (I've been blessed...with a good dermatologist), but I like the sound of "controlling oil, minimizing pores." My skin does tend to be a bit dry, but I think oil is my major issue. Plus, I always use mouisturizer underneath my makeup anyway.
I do wish it had an SPF though. For those of us who would fall under the description of "Pure Ivory", protection from those evil UV rays is very important.

But my mouisturizer has SPF. So I think I might give this foundation a try.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Oh, and how cute are the new Sephora by OPI nailpolishes? I personally want every color.
Or at least the Nonfat Soy Half Caff.

Before I procede any further with this blog I think I should introduce you to the love of my life:

Disney.

I grew up in a household where the television was always tuned to the Disney Channel and where my mother decorated the bathroom in red, black, yellow, and white to correspond with her Mickey Mouse clock that hung above the counter.

The first movie I ever watched was The Little Mermaid and its story, heroine, colors, songs, and cheeky little crustacean amazed me. My sister and I immediately asked our mom to purchase the bedding for our room (Not to mention the Flounder stuffed animal, which I still have...somewhere).

I first visited Disneyland when I was 4 and was awed by the world renowned theme park. Its magic, adventure, fantasy, and thrills had me hooked. At a young age, I became a Disney junkie. It took me a few more years to figure it out, but I realized that Disney is the place for me.

The history of the company fascinates me. I've read countless books on Walt's life and will read or listen to anything relating to him or the world he created.
Through learning about the company, I discovered that there was no other place that I would want to work more. The way employees are treated as cast members and the Disney traditions are inspiring. It seems like such an incredible workplace.

And thats where my dream begins. Take a love for fashion, an addiction to movies, and an adoration for Disney, put them in a blender and out comes what I imagine to be the best career possible: a Disney Studios Costume Designer.
And I truly believe that my dream will come true.

My apparel design degree is only one step in reaching my goal. I will also be participating in the Disney College Program in the Spring of 2010. Its an incredible opportunity that will open many doors within the company (or to anywhere else, really!).
I cannot wait to become a cast member at Walt Disney World. It will be such a rush to enter the parks early in the morning, before the gates have opened and the first guests have arrived, and know that you are there to make someone's visit to Disney just a bit more memorable and magical.

I'm so excited, I'm even considering working at The Disney Store this summer!

If you were to ask me why I love Disney so much, my answer would be, admittedly, very long. But I think I can manage to sum it up with a few words:

Disney captures the magic, wonderment, joy, and amusement in life. It encourages you to dream big, wish upon stars, and know that, if you work hard enough, you can do anything you want to. Its movies, cartoons, and parks are an escape into a world where Prince Charming saves the day and there is always a happy ending. It holds to tradition and only the best values. I am inspired by the remarkable stories, the compelling characters, and the marvelous imagineers that make it all happen.

There are so many more things I can say, but it would take years to write them all down, so I will leave you with one of my favorite Walt quotes:

"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them."

"I want to do something useful in the world."

I just finished reading this month's (April) issue of Glamour and, I must say, I am quite impressed.
It is the magazine's 70th anniversary issue and its jam packed with fantastic beauty tips and great clothes. To be totally honest, it was my first time reading Glamour. It was probably the only fashion magazine I had not read and shame on me for not doing so.
This issue featured TONS of great stuff under $70. Imagine that. A fashion mag claiming to include affordable items actually presents us with affordable items! Usually you find that by affordable the magazine means under $600. And, I don't know about you, but the last time I had, say, $300 to spend on a pair of jeans was...never. I only dream about a wallet of such a size.

A standout section of the issue was the American Icons photo shoot. Glamour celebrated 70 years of strong, independent, influencial women by having celebrities don outfits, makeup, and a hair style similar to certain iconic women throughout American history.
Heres just a few of my favorites:

Those ladies are Amelia Earhart, Rosie the Riveter, Audrey Hepburn, and Carrie Bradshaw, if you couldn't tell.
All of those women have had such an impact on the women of this country. Amelia Earhart showed us that we can do anything we want and encourages us to have no fear when it comes to accomplishing our goals. Rosie the Riveter empowers us to work hard, have lots of determination, and to not believe in a glass cieling. Audrey Hepburn is an excellent role model in every way. The way she lived her life should encourage us to be classy, polite, stylish, and kind. Her work for Unicef is an excellent demonstration of how we should help those who are in need. Carrie Bradshaw has had such an influence on the world of fashion. Her no-nonsense, fearless approach to dressing made women branch out and embrace unique, eclectic, and interesting clothes. She showed us that fashion can be fun and to express who we are through the garments that we wear.

There are so many other stand out women to admire and look up to. In fashion, business, hollywood, politics...everywhere.

Good Morning, Sunshine!

I forgot about daylight savings time. I woke up at 8:30, thinking it was 7:30, so I went back to bed. After hearing my sister up and about I inquired about the time and learned that it was, alas, 15 past 9. Rats.
I hate it when I sleep in.

But what better to wake up to then new runway shows on style.com??
I'm really hoping they put up Jeremy Scott's show soon. Not because I'm particuarly a fan of his (I'm actually not that fond of his stuff, to be honest), but because I saw on a twitter update that he used Mickey Mouse prints.
And that I have to see.

One show that I have been wicked excited about is DSquared.
I must confess - in past fashion seasons I have not paid much attention to them. And to that sad statement I should add "Dean & Dan Caten, where have you been all my life?!"
Their Fall '09 line is a perfect mix of formal and casual. You could wear the pieces seperately, together, on a Starbucks run (as the models on the runway so well demonstrated), or to your next formal occasion.
I want everything.
Here are some of my personal favorites from the show:

The colors are perfect for fall. Rusty browns, beige, navy, black, with pops of red, purple, & that gorgeous bright blue.
I'm obsessing over the belt that is shown in the second picture listed above. I wonder where I could find one like it... If I do, I shall let you know.

I would love to write about shows all day, but, unfortunately, poli sci homework is calling my name. And I'm replying, "Why, college general ed requirements, why must you make you me suffer so?"

My first entry is being written in a cramped, untidy dorm room, with a Harry Potter movie marathon playing out on my television screen. Afterall, what better way to spend a weekend?

I don't know if I should start out with revealing a bit about myself so I will not. You'll come to discover my likes, dislikes, inbetweens, qualities, and characterisitcs if you follow my writings. (For example: you've already learned I'm a Harry Potter geek. If you didn't think I was a super fan, I will tell you...this is not my first marathon).

I will divulge that I am a college student currently studying fashion. In 4 years, I will graduate with a dregree in Apparel Design and Manufacturing and go on to an amazing career in costume design. For as Walt Disney said, "If you can dream it, you can do it."

As much as I love and have always loved fashion, I am new to the world of sewing and construction. I will be posting my designs and attempts to bring those designs to life in this blog.

I also plan to record my thoughts & reactions to various random subjects. From runway shows, to my favorite restaurants, from movies to major events, from my love and dream of working for Disney to Lost theories.

And so, without further adieu, I invite you to read, subscribe, comment, laugh, and cry with the most stylish blog of the century.
